Moonee Valley City Council is committed to creating a connected city of accessible, active and sustainable transport choices, as outlined in our long-term strategy, MV2040. Between 25 November and 5 January, Council consulted with community about plans to increase safety of the shared path along the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail, in the vicinity of Strathmore Secondary College. This consultation has now closed.
The project sought community feedback on the following design improvements:
- Reconstruction and widening of the existing shared path approaching the railway underpass
- A raised and widened boardwalk structure at the railway underpass
- Earthworks and retaining walls to improve sightlines for cyclists
- Bicycle safety barrier fencing adjacent to the steep drop-off to Moonee Ponds Creek
- New signage and line-marking for enhanced cyclist safety
- Landscaping and re-vegetation of affected areas
See also the attached artist's impressions and detailed design concept plans, for further insight into the design.
We thank all community members who took time to provide their feedback about this proposal. We have now considered this feedback, which is summarised in the Community Consultation Report attached to this webpage.
This consultation has confirmed that the project enjoys strong community support. The feedback will assist Council to finalise detailed designs for the project, which will significantly improve safety for users of the existing shared path around the railway underpass at Strathmore. It also helps Council to better understand community priorities and aspirations for the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail as a whole and will help guide Council in relation to ongoing upgrades and improvements of the trail.
