This campaign has hit a delay for four years until 2028 as per the 2024 Victorian State Budget announcement. You can read Mayor Pierce Tyson's response here.

Council has run a public campaign for a train station at Airport West since 2018. Via our Still Waiting Campaign, we collected over 1000 responses from local residents and businesses on why they need a train station.

These were delivered to the Hon. Ben Carroll MP, Minster for Education, Minister for Medical Research and Member for Niddrie by Mayor Councillor Samantha Byrne and Deputy Mayor Councillor Jacob Bettio on 16 September 2022.

On 21 September 2022, the Victorian Government committed to delivering a new train station to Keilor East as part the Melbourne Airport Rail project – linking more than 150,000 residents in the City of Moonee Valley area to Victoria’s rail network for the first time.

In the 2023-24 Budget, the Australian Government announced a 90-day Independent Review of federally funded infrastructure projects, including the Keilor East Railway Station.

Following the review, on 16 November 2023, the Australian Government announced that its funding for the Airport Rail, including the Keilor East station would not be delayed. Council looks forward to hearing from the Victorian Government on the delivery of this much need infrastructure to Melbourne’s West.
