A temporary dog park was established at Bent Street Reserve on 29 November 2024, as a trial due to conclude on 8 April 2025. This location was chosen following a feasibility study for dog facilities in Moonee Ponds, which found that Bent Street Reserve was currently underutilised for recreation, offering an opportunity to trial new uses with minimal impact on existing activities.

Through past community engagement for the Open Space Strategy, we heard a strong desire for more and improved dog-friendly spaces. This trial aimed to respond to that feedback and gather insights into how the park can best serve our community.

From 29 November 2024 - 16 February 2025, Council sought community feedback on the park’s usage (whether you used it for exercising your dog or for other purposes), any barriers you experienced when accessing and suggestions for potential improvements. Your feedback helped guide decisions on possible permanent dog park amenities, such as agility equipment, sensory features, a water fountain, and waste bins. However, certain elements will not be considered, including a greyhound track, or more significant park infrastructure such as toilets and BBQs.

Moonee Valley City Council concluded the trial of a fenced dog park at Bent Street Reserve, and the temporary fencing was removed in May.

A report on the trial was presented to Council at their meeting on 29 April 2025. The report and meeting minutes are available on Councils website: https://mvcc.vic.gov.au/my-council/council-meetings/

The project to create a permanent fenced dog park at Bent Street Reserve was included in the Draft 2025/2026 Budget which was considered by Council in May. This item was approved, and the 25/26 Capital Works Budget included the design and delivery of a fenced dog park at Bent Street Reserve. Designs are currently underway which will be shared with community in the coming months.
