Moonee Valley’s long-term plan is to create a healthy city by 2040 and through delivering our strategy MV2040, we are invested in working with the community to shape the type of city and neighbourhoods we want to live in.
Involving community in decision making that impacts neighbourhoods and peoples lives is very important to us. Gaining insights, experiences, ideas and feedback from community enables Council to provide better services, places and plans that will meet community needs and support community aspirations. When you participate in our consultation projects, you are helping us understand community priorities, issues and ideas to make our city an even better place to live, work and play.
Over the last couple of years we have asked how you want to be involved in decision making in Moonee Valley. We asked how you would prefer to have conversations and get involved, what we can do to support participation and how we can ensure that our community engagement projects are genuine and meaningful opportunities.
We have learnt so much from the conversations and input we have received on how Council can plan and deliver genuine, meaningful and inclusive engagement with the community. We used this information to develop a draft Community Engagement Framework and Policy. Now we would like your feedback on our draft Community Engagement Framework and Policy and tell us if we got it right.
The Community Engagement Policy outlines the principles that will underpin the way we plan and deliver community engagement going forward. The Community Engagement Framework outlines our approach to how we will undertake community engagement. You can read these documents in the Document Library on this page.
Please share your feedback on our Draft Community Engagement Framework and Policy by filling in the feedback form by Friday 5 February 2021.
Who did we talk to?
We talked to people across Moonee Valley to make sure we heard from diverse groups in our community. As well as promoting the online survey we:
had a survey on Your Say Moonee Valley
invited community advisory groups to participate
developed a community reference group
had stalls at community events
promoted participation through community networks and facilities.
What did you tell us?
Some key things we learnt from your feedback were:
you would like us to be clear about the level of influence over the decision so it is a genuine engagement
you would like us to engage as early as possible in the process to ensure a meaningful opportunity to participate
you would like us to give lots of time and information to ensure you can provide quality feedback
you would like us to use targeted engagement for different groups of the community to ensure adequate opportunity to get involved
you would like us to close the loop with you about the decision and how the feedback has influenced the project or decision.
