Whether it's driving action to address the Climate emergency or programs to build better social connections, you've told us that you want to see more community-led initiatives. We're keen to know what role Council can play to support this.

Over the next four years how can Council better support the community to take the lead on initiatives and build social connections?

During our initial phase of engagement, there was much concern raised but he community and stakeholders about the rise in in reports of family violence post COVID and the need for Council to play a greater a role in prevention and response. Participants in our recent workshop identified and discussed some great ideas for where they believe Council should focus it's efforts some of their ideas are included below. And we're keen for you to post your ideas or build on some of the ideas raised in the workshop.

    PREVENTION

    • Using Council resources and connections to increase awareness in the community and provide culturally appropriate/sensitive resources.
    • Increase education the community through existing networks such as sporting clubs, compulsory modules to train/educate members around key issues i.e. behaviour.
    • Linking education approaches to "lived experiences" and leveraging the power of story-telling.
    • Council has a role to play in breaking down systemic barriers preventing awareness and access to services.

    RESPONSE

    • Partnering with local businesses to create "safe spaces" or Council safety hubs.
    • Council has a role in co-ordination of good service delivery, advocacy and holding service providers to account to ensure continuation of care.
    • Help build tailored responses and awareness of exisiting services/support that can be accessed.
    • Funding positive outcomes.
    • Framework and training for Council staff across all customer-facing areas to identify and respond to disclosure or evidence of family violence or Violence against women.

Where do you think Council should focus its efforts in regards to violence prevention and response?

We know that there are gaps in the provision of open space across Moonee Valley, but there are also existing spaces that need further investment and improvement - Council will need to invest in both.

Do you think new spaces or existing spaces should be more of an immediate priority for Council investment. Why?

Encouraging active modes of transport such as walking, running and cycling has a range of benefits from improving mental health and well-being, improving environmental outcomes and reducing traffic congestion.

How might Council encourage more people to become active walkers, runners and cyclists?

Are there obstacles to walking, running or cycling around Moonee Valley?  What do you think prevents people from adopting more active modes of transport? Are their initiatives or incentives that you think Council could be doing to promote active transport.
