East Keilor Leisure Centre redevelopment

A new state-of-the-art, fully accessible centre is due in early 2021. The existing centre will be closed until this time.

The new centre will include:

  • 50 metre heated outdoor pool
  • 25 metre indoor lap pool
  • Learn to swim pool
  • Dedicated warm water program pool
  • Spa, steam and sauna
  • Indoor water playground for young children
  • Café and seating area
  • Gym, group fitness and spin studios
  • Crèche
  • Accessible and family change rooms

Funding the new centre

The new centre is estimated to cost $49.9 million and we welcomed support from other levels of government to help fund this vibrant community hub.

As a result of our advocacy efforts, we were successful in securing $3 million from the State Government towards this project as well as a low-interest loan for $10 million.

We will commit the remaining funds needed to complete the project.

A range of important works have already been completed on site, however delays with contract management have impacted complete demolition of the centre. At this stage, we expect to begin larger-scale works from mid-winter. This delay has impacted our expected opening date, which is now early 2021.

To minimise the impact of these delays, we have started early works on site, including:

    • emptying all pools in line with City West Water regulations
    • undertaking hazard audits that involve demolition of walls, floors and ceilings
    • removing and relocating equipment to Neighbourhood Fitness Hubs and other leisure centres

We sent the existing centre out with a splash with a weekend of free activities and entertainment – thanks to everyone who made it such a memorable day!

In the coming months we will also be exploring improvements to the recreational facilities at Quinn Grove Reserve, and considering the need for additional facilities in this area. Consultation on these plans will take place later this year.
