How can I keep active during the redevelopment?

There are plenty of ways to keep active:

    1. Neighbourhood Fitness Hubs
Keep your favourite fitness classes and instructors at our Neighbourhood Fitness Hubs! Exercise hubs in East Keilor and surrounds will offer classes suitable for all ages and abilities, including Cycle, Les Mills, Lite Pace and more!

    2. Transfer your membership
If you haven't already, you can transfer to Ascot Vale Leisure Centre or Windy Hill Fitness Centre to get access to a special rate, the same classes and many of the same instructors! You’ll also receive one month free! Learn more.

    3. Join a local gym or swim school
There are a number of local businesses offering fitness and aquatic services for all ages. See what’s around.

Why are you rebuilding the centre?

East Keilor Leisure Centre plays a key role in supporting local residents to improve and maintain their health and wellbeing. Over the years the centre has been improved and upgraded, but the pools and the centre facilities were at the end of their serviceable life and would soon have become beyond repair.

Will there be an outdoor pool?

Yes, the design includes a 50m heated outdoor pool (seasonal - November to March inclusive).

    Is the old centre closed?

Yes, the centre closed on Sunday, 3 March 2019. It will remain closed until the new centre opens.

Why has the opening date changed to mid-2021?

Whilst we had wanted to open from late 2020, unforeseen delays with contract management impacted complete demolition of the centre and it's now looking like we'll open in mid-2021. We know that delays like this can be frustrating and apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

Is Council planning to introduce any other facilities in this area?

We are exploring improvements to the recreational facilities at Quinn Grove Reserve, and considering the need for additional facilities in this area. You can follow the project here.

What will happen to the synthetic soccer pitch next door?

We plan to continue utilising the synthetic pitch during the redevelopment. However, we need to ensure the construction works do not pose a safety issue for players. We will liaise with users of the soccer pitch regarding any impacts.

Is there any impact on Essendon Keilor College located next door?

There is no impact to the operation of Essendon Keilor College, however the East Keilor Leisure Centre car park is not accessible for school pick up and drop off. We will continue to work with the school throughout the project.
