Melbourne Water are updating four flood maps for the Moonee Valley area. These flood maps will better identify areas at risk of flooding from different sources.

Updating flood maps is a lengthy process that generally takes 12 to 18 months. Once these are drafted, Melbourne Water will be seeking community feedback. To receive email notifications as soon as flood maps in your area are released and have your say, 'follow' the Melbourne Water consultation page available here.

The consultation will involve both stormwater flooding and waterway flooding:

  • Stormwater flooding - when heavy rain exceeds the capacity of the drainage system, water can spill onto the streets.
  • Waterway flooding - heavy or prolonged rain can cause rivers and creeks to overflow into neighbouring areas.

If you have any questions about this project, contact Melbourne Water directly using the details on their consultation page. On the consultation page there is also a range of information relating to flood modelling, choosing insurance, building in a flood zone, reducing flood risk and preparing for flooding.
