The corner of Mt Alexander Road and Wellington Street (177a Mt Alexander Road) in Flemington will be transformed into a pocket park with support from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP).

The small triangular space will become a green oasis among the nearby schools, shops and tram stops. We hope to open Moonee Valley’s newest park in 2022.

Features of the draft concept design include:

  • Flexible seating including seating walls and seats with back and armrests
  • Brick feature paving and new bluestone kerb to Mt Alexander Road and Wellington Street
  • Bike racks, a drinking fountain and bin
  • Trees, garden beds and mown grass areas - passively irrigated, if possible
  • Nature strip with trees on the Wellington Street side
  • Ambient lighting

When designing the park, we wanted to:

  • Make it relaxing with plenty of flexible seating
  • Make it green and cool as relief from the busy road
  • Make it feel welcoming and safe for everyone
  • Make it contemporary with a clean, fresh design to suit its urban location

More design intent informaiton can be found in the document library. Preliminary consultation was undertaken with local young people to guide the concept design. You can view the summary of key feedback in the Document Library.

Thank you to everyone who provided thoughts on the Draft Concept Design for the Flemington Pocket Park. We consulted with young people, residents and stakeholders about the draft concept design over October through to November. The findings from the community consultation are being analysed and will be shared with everyone soon in the Document Library.

Our newest park needs a name and we want you to help us out! Information about the naming process and how you can submit a name suggestion can be found in the document library.
