Introduction
Council is investigating the provision of a kerbside glass recycling bin service for Moonee Valley residents. This is required by the State Government Circular Economy (Waste Reduction & Recycling) Act 2021 which requires all Victorian Councils to provide a four-bin service: general rubbish, recycling, Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) and glass.
Between 10th April and 10th May 2026, Council sought residents' views on glass recycling services in Moonee Valley. This consultation is now closed, and Council is considering the findings. The survey results will be presented at a Council meeting on 26 May 2026, and the consultation findings and next steps will be posted on this page.
Background
In early 2025, Council conducted a trial of communal glass drop-off points to explore opportunities for public glass collection. This was particularly targeted at high-density housing, properties with limited space, and retirement villages. The trial delivered positive results, with two sites now operating as permanent public glass recycling locations.
