As part of the new Local Government Act 2020, Council is required to update and adopt a range of documents, including:

  • a new Public Transparency Policy
  • updated Audit and Risk Committee Charter
  • updated Instrument of Delegations
  • updated Councillor Expenses Policy
  • Governance Rules (including the Election Period Policy).

We're pleased to be getting started by asking you to comment on our proposed Governance Rules 2020.

Once adopted, it is intended that the Governance Rules will replace the Meeting Procedure Protocol component of Council's existing Governance Local Law 2019 as well as Council's Election Period Policy 2019.

While the Governance Rules will replace significant portions of the Governance Local Law, Council is still proposing to adopt a Governance Local Law 2020 to regulate the use of the Council’s Common Seal and ensure the efficient and orderly conduct of Council Meetings.

In the Documents menu to the right of this page, you will find a copy of the proposed Governance Rules and Local Law together with a Local Law Community Impact Statement, which has been developed to assist the community in understanding the proposed Local Law.

The Community Consultation period has now closed. Thank you for participating.

Submissions received in response to the draft Governance Local Law 2020 will be considered in accordance with section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989. If you would like to speak to your submission, you should indicate this in your submission. We will conduct a Section 223 Committee of Council on Tuesday, 18 August 2020 at 6.00pm via video-conference and either you or a person acting on your behalf will be entitled to appear.

Council will consider the final draft of the proposed Governance Rules (including the Election Period Policy) 2020 and the Governance Local Law 2020 at its Meeting of 25 August, 2020.
