While our initial advocacy was successful and the Federal Government extended funding for four-year-old kinder by one more year in the 2019 budget, our kids and their educators deserve certainty.
The benefits of kinder last a lifetime. Kinder kids enjoy a happier school transition and do better academically. They are also more likely to finish year 12 and enjoy better income as adults.
If the Federal government were to cease funding kinder hours in the future, families would on average need to find an extra $2,000 per child per year. For many children this will mean they will simply miss out on valuable early childhood education.
Moonee Valley City Council is pleased to be part of the I Love Kinder campaign, being led by the City of Wyndham and the Municipal Association of Victoria.

I'd love kinders too... if we had one in our suburb. It beggars belief that while the council are signing off multi storey apartment complexes and proposing paid parking around our parks, there isn't a single community or council provided kindergarten facility in Moonee Ponds. I'd like nothing more than to walk my son to kinder, but can't as there isn't one within safe walking distance.

Please fund kindergartens and raise the salary for those who educate and care for children on a minimum wage.
