Are the works really necessary?

Yes. The existing concrete surface is in poor condition and existing drainage pipes located along the Right of Way also require upgrading. The completion of these works will improve asset life, safety and improve the appearance of the area.

Why will the works take so long?

The extent of upgrade works includes upgrading 132m of Drainage pipe and reconstructing the entire length of concrete Right of Way Surface, with an overall estimated construction period of 12-14 weeks. Council is seeking feedback from the community and traders to understand how construction impacts can be minimised.

Is there the option of smaller stages so traders and residents can get access in a shorter timeframe?

Council has proposed two stages of Construction

    • Area A – Yellow Area –Access to Arcade through to Keilor Rd, section of Carpark and Right of Way closed for duration of construction period (2-4 weeks)
    • Area B – Blue Area – section of Carpark and Right of Way Access closed for duration of construction period. (10-12 weeks)

Why would Council reconstruct concrete surfaces within private property? Who would have to pay for this?

The concrete pavement works are proposed to extend 1-2m into private property. Much of the existing pavement within these areas is in poor condition and would likely be damaged further during construction if left unattended. Council consider that the inclusion of these areas as part of the concrete replacement works will provide a better community outcome.

The additional concrete works within private areas will be undertaken at Council’s expense.
