Moonee Valley City Council is proposing to rename a section of McPherson Street, Moonee Ponds.

This renaming is required because the current street numbering on the east (evenly numbered) side of McPherson Street does not readily provide for the addressing of any new lots between Dean Street and Thomas Street, Moonee Ponds. This is required to accommodate the redevelopment of the MV Racecourse.

In October 2018, Council issued a planning permit for 67 new dwellings to be constructed as part of stage one for the redevelopment of the Moonee Valley Racecourse. This first stage is situated between Dean Street and Thomas Street, with 20 new dwellings having a frontage to McPherson Street. In accordance with the Australian Standards for Rural and Urban Addressing, these new dwellings are required to be numbered to the street that the properties face. Moonee Valley City Council is required to rename the section of McPherson Street between Dean and Thomas Streets.

During February and March 2020, residents were provided with an opportunity to contribute to the renaming process by indicating their support for a preferred name. However, a definitive clear preference from the four options provided was not forthcoming. After discussions with Geographic Names Victoria, a further round of consultation was recommended to allow the community to choose between the two options that initially received the highest level of support in the first consultation.

At its meeting on 16 June 2020, Council’s Place Naming Special Committee resolved to undertake a second round of community consultation with surveys to be sent to properties with an adjoining boundary to McPherson Street within the development area between Dean Street and Thomas Street.

For this second round of consultation only two names are proposed.

  1. Feehan Avenue
  2. Tamboore Avenue – (meaning Pond)

Please vote for your preferred name via the survey below by Sunday, 2 August 2020.

All votes will be counted and the name with the majority of votes will become the official name of the road section subject to the approval of Council’s Place Naming Special Committee.
