Niddrie Town Heart

We’re transforming the western end of Keilor Road in Niddrie and need your help!

Council’s thinking about the future of where we live and based on community priorities has developed a long-term plan called MV2040.

MV2040 outlines how we’re going to approach planning and service delivery in the coming years.

For the Keilor Road/Essendon North neighbourhood, MV2040 says Council will:

  • Create a vibrant new library and community hub
  • Beautify the Keilor Road streetscape, improving the design and the amount of greenery
  • Create more public open space

We are working to deliver these through Niddrie Town Heart, a range of projects to transform the western end of Keilor Road over the next five years.

The Niddrie Town Heart will create a gathering place for the community. It’ll help us create what’s called a ’20-minute neighbourhood’ – which means you’ll be able to find everything you need within a 20-minute journey from your home, either by walking, cycling or catching public transport.

The Niddrie Town Heart will make Keilor Road a safer, greener, more connected and inviting place to visit.

An exciting long-term project will be a new library, community hub and public open space. Over time, we’ll also improve street planting, seating, paths, lighting, drainage, traffic management and building shelter.

To help us imagine what the Niddrie Town Heart might be like we will be conducting a brainstorming and visioning process with the community over the next year.

We want to hear from you about what you most value about the neighbourhood, and the sorts of facilities, spaces, services and improvements you would like to see as part of the Town Heart.

You have already given us some important feedback to inform the Draft Keilor Road Streetscape Plan focusing on:

  • Traffic flows and pedestrian movement
  • Open space, play spaces and meeting spaces
  • Street furniture and bicycle parking
  • Beautification and planting
  • Creating a sense of place

We’re listening and are keen to continue this conversation. Help us make Niddrie Town Heart a place for everyone in the community to spend time and meet neighbours.
