Moonee Valley Paid Parking Plan

Following a Council resolution on Tuesday, 26 March 2019 we will not be continuing with a trial of paid parking in Moonee Valley.

We will continue to look at ways to free up parking spaces and ease parking pressure throughout the municipality.

We thank you for taking the time to provide feedback.

The existing paid parking in Alexandra Avenue will remain unchanged.

In order for Council to deal with increasing demands and appropriately plan for the future, more effective management of publicly available parking is required. Time based and resident exempt restrictions have been previously used to protect parking availability in residential areas. It is now considered appropriate to implement paid parking in order to manage parking demands in specific areas.

Parking fees are designed to influence behaviour, not raise revenue. By implementing paid parking in certain areas, the aim is to free up parking spaces for those who live and shop in the area. We also want to encourage people to walk, ride or catch public transport, rather than drive.

Proposed new paid parking sites:

  • east side of Eddy Street, Moonee Ponds, between Taylor Street to the north and Homer Street to the south (6 new spaces)
  • west side of Penny Lane, Moonee Ponds, between Young Street to the north and Gladstone Street to the south (5 new spaces)

Proposed existing paid parking sites:

  • west side of Moore Street, Moonee Ponds, between Gladstone Street to the north and Browning Street to the south (29 spaces)
  • east side of Mt Alexander Road, Moonee Ponds, along Queens Park between The Strand to the north and Kellaway Avenue to the south (31 spaces)
  • both sides of The Boulevard, Moonee Ponds, near the Boathouse, west of Orford Street (55 spaces)
  • east side of Matthews Avenue, Niddrie, north of Keilor Road (7 spaces)
  • west side of Treadwell Road, Niddrie, north of Keilor Road (12 spaces)
  • south side of Woodland Street, Strathmore, between Pascoe Vale Road to the west and Wallace Crescent to the east (29 spaces)

The parking fees will be $1.00 per hour, capped at a maximum of $10 per day. The paid parking will apply between 6am till 10pm Monday to Sunday.
