In 2007, Council purchased the property at 344 Ascot Vale Road, Moonee Ponds. The intention of this purchase was to implement a shared zone to improve connectivity between Mt Alexander Road and Gladstone Street.

In 2023, it was determined that the property was not suitable for the intended use and Council commenced the sale process in accordance with Section 114 of the Local Government Act 2020. As part of this process, Council has:

  • Placed a public notice on Council’s website of the intention to sell
  • Conducted a community engagement process for a period of at least 4 weeks

Proceeds from the sale of this property will be returned to the Property Sales Reserve.

To comply with Council's Community Engagement Policy, Council published a notice to invite community feedback in response to this proposal from 2 January - 31 January 2025. On 4 March 2025, this consultation was opened for an additional 2 weeks to allow for adjacent residents to have their say on the proposal.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. This property was considered by Council at its meeting on 29 April 2025, with Council resolving to endorse the disposal of the property.

Following this, Council invited local real estate agents to participate in an expression of interest process to assist in the sale of 344 Ascot Vale Road, Moonee Ponds.

Barry Plant was the successful agent from a total of five submissions.

Marketing of the property is to commence on Wednesday, 2 July with auction expected on Saturday, 26 July.
