Public toilet locations and upgrades | May 2026

11 May 2026

Council is pleased to share with the community the locations of new and upgraded public toilets at Queens Park East and Canning Street, and another round of community engagement about a proposed toilet at Etzel Street Reserve.

These new facilities will improve comfort and accessibility at some our most-loved public spaces.

Canning Street

The new toilet will be installed in the same location, with the entry reoriented to face Military Road for improved safety.

The upgrade will also include new landscaping and greenery around the facility, as well as a new kerb ramp to enable access from the car park to the existing footpath where you can enter the toilet.

Queens Park East

Following detailed site investigations, consideration of community feedback, and advice from a certified arborist, a new toilet will be located between the Queens Park East playground and Pascoe Vale Road. Construction of the new public toilet will be subject to the Council budget funding process.

Compared to the originally proposed locations, this site significantly reduces tree removal. One non-native tree will be removed and retained for use in another project. There is no impact to tree protection zones around all the mature and semi-mature native trees in Queens Park.

Etzel Street Reserve

Community consultation and site investigations (including assessment of underground services) indicated the toilet locations previously proposed for Etzel Street Reserve were unfeasible.

We are therefore undertaking a second round of community consultation on three new potential locations.

These options better respond to site constraints, accessibility requirements, safety considerations and potential impacts on the reserve amenity.

Community feedback will be considered alongside other site-specific factors and operational requirements to inform the selection of the final toilet location. You can provide feedback by:

  • completing a short online survey
  • leaving a voice message via the Speak Pipe tool
  • emailing, phoning or mailing Council

Visit the Your Say project page to participate in this phase of consultation phase.
