Maribyrnong River Precinct - a vision for the future

Image reference Environment Victoria

Ensuring that the Maribyrnong River Precinct continues to provide a natural, beautiful environment and rich sporting, recreational and cultural experiences for generations to come is a key priority for Council. This project seeks to develop a shared vision that enhances the best elements of the precinct and sets a plan for appropriate future development.

Creating a vision for the Maribyrnong River is a key initiative of MV2040. The project will address the optimal long term use and appropriate development for the area known as the Maribyrnong River Precinct.

It will consider opportunities to build upon the area as a walkable, connected, people-friendly place for all to experience and enjoy.

The precinct is defined by The Boulevard, Orford Street, Holmes Road and Park Crescent Moonee Ponds as well as a number of other smaller streets. It includes the facilities and open space areas of Aberfeldie Park and Maribyrnong Park, the Incinerator Gallery, the Council Depot and Transfer Station, an accessible playground, the Boathouse Café and Playground and the Maribyrnong River environs. Poyntons Nursery Café is located at one end of the project area boundary.

We want to make sure that the Maribyrnong River precinct is protected and enhanced for future generations.

This vision project will identify what is most loved by the community and collect ideas for how the area can be enhanced. We aim to develop a vision that captures these ideas and guides future improvements.

We will be asking residents, visitors and users for their comments and suggestions to help shape the vision.

This activity allows you to mark important places in the precinct.

We are keen to understand your favourite places in the precinct, and the places that you think can be improved.

This will help to guide a vision that protects the areas that are loved, and allow us to consider changes to the places that need improving.

We are working towards making the Maribyrnong River Precinct the best place it can be for the enjoyment of future generations!
