The final Riverside Sport and Recreation Precinct Plan was adopted by Council on 29 November.
Community input has been invaluable in shaping the final plan and we thank community members including almost 100 individuals who provided feedback on the draft precinct plan. You can read the engagement findings in the Consultation Report located on the right side of this page.
The Riverside Sport and Recreation Precinct is a sporting, recreation, leisure and open space precinct. It is in Ascot Vale alongside the Maribyrnong River and sits next to Fairbairn Park. It includes golf, netball, tennis and other facilities.
The Riverside Sport and Recreation Precinct Plan provides a vision and set of principles to guide the future of the precinct. The vision and principles were informed by site investigations and findings from community and stakeholder engagement.
The Vision for the precinct is:“A welcoming place for community sport and recreation, and enjoyment of the river and natural environment.”
The Principles for the Riverside Sport and Recreation Precinct are:
- Safe
- Multi-use and Community Focused
- Green and Climate Resilient
- Connected and Accessible
- Functional and High Amenity
The precinct plan includes opportunities for how the site could be improved over the next 15 years. These opportunities are indicative and subject to further feasibility and Council priorities and budgeting processes. All future site opportunities will also be reviewed for flood resilience.
