This consultation has now closed, and Council is considering community feedback. Thank you to all those who had their say. Further updates will be provided via this page.

Background

Council observed pedestrians and cyclists using an informal crossing across the Milleara Road drainage reserve in Avondale Heights. In response, Council’s Strategic Transport team identified that introducing a new shared path will provide a more direct and efficient link between existing paths.

This improvement will also support significant anticipated growth in the area, helping meet increasing demand for active travel connections across Avondale Heights.

The proposed shared path extends from the end of the existing path at Lorgrove Court, near Templewood Crescent, in Avondale Heights, and connects to the existing shared path on the eastern side of the reserve across the open channel. It will provide a safer and more accessible route for people walking and cycling through the area.

A new speed cushion is also proposed in Templewood Crescent to reduce vehicle speeds near the Tea Gardens Drive intersection and improve road safety.

Community engagement

Community members were invited to review the concept plan and indicate if they support the project. Community could also share any ideas, concerns or suggestions to help improve the Plan. Community feedback will help identify any gaps and inform the next stage of planning.

Between Monday, 1 June and Sunday, 21 June 2026, community members could have their say by:

  • completing an online or hardcopy
  • emailing, phoning or writing by mail to Council
  • recording feedback using a SpeakPipe audio recording tool on this page.

Please note this consultation period was shorter than our usual timeframe, as Council had already undertaken targeted engagement with directly affected residents.

See the images below for the proposed sites of the new shared path.
