Where will it go?

19 July 2019

It's been so exciting to hear from so many new supporters of our campaign for a station at Airport West over the past week, as we've distributed flyers to close to 5,000 households across Airport West and Keilor East.

One of the most popular questions we've heard from you has been: where do you propose the station should be located?

The location of a station at Airport West would come down to a range of factors, including the exact route the line takes from the super-hub in Sunshine to the Airport. This will form part of the Business Case currently being developed by Rail Projects Victoria.

However, we do know that the route is likely to connect up through the existing rail corridor that runs along the back of Keilor East and Airport West, which currently services five regional passenger trains per day on the Albury-Wodonga route.

We’re proposing that a good location for a station would be around Roberts Road, Airport West/Terror Street, Keilor Park, immediately north-west of the Western Ring Road and Calder Freeway interchange.

This site has an existing public acquisition overlay for use for rail infrastructure. It is well connected to the road network, two existing bus routes, and the Western Ring Road and Steele Creek pedestrian/cycling trails. It is close to the residential area and could be easily connected up to the Airport West Westfield Shopping Centre and Essendon Fields by bus.

We know that a lack of access to train transport is a big issue for residents not just in Airport West, but also in surrounding suburbs like Keilor East. We're proposing a location that we hope would service the residents of both suburbs.

Council commissioned a feasibility study on the benefits of this site and how it could work as part of the Airport Rail Link and Suburban Rail Loop. You can read that report under the 'Document Library' tab on the right-hand side of this page.

We'd love to hear your feedback on the proposed location! Please continue to leave your thoughts in the 'Comments' tab, above.
