Background
Council is progressing plans to enhance Keilor Road's activity centre in Essendon North, creating a greener, more attractive and pedestrian-friendly space. We have created a draft concept plan for the final stage of the project, between Cooper Street and Mount Alexander Road.
Two earlier sections of Keilor Road have already been upgraded. This final section will continue the same design approach and streetscape theme to ensure a consistent look and feel.
When asked what the community would like to see in the new streetscape plan for other sections of Keilor Road, an overwhelming desire was expressed for increased greenery and canopy trees followed by more seating/gathering spaces for the community.
Some of the planned improvements include:
- increased tree canopy cover
- increased garden planting and greening
- updated street furniture
- upgraded footpath and pedestrian crossing, including corner treatments to local streets connecting to Keilor Road.
These improvements aim to create a vibrant, walkable environment that supports local businesses and encourages community use, and are subject to funding allocation.
