Community Standards for Signage Consultation Report

Sport and recreation clubs have traditionally displayed sponsorship and other signage at some sports grounds and reserves in Moonee Valley.
In 2022 Council consulted with the community about the proposed draft Community Standards for Signage at Sporting Grounds and Reserves. This consultation sought to understand whether there was community support for the Draft Community Standards for Signage at Sporting Grounds and Reserves. In addition, this consultation sought to understand the thoughts from the community on level of signage, and guidance on the direction, size and amount of signage. Following this consultation, the Standards were considered by Council and implemented in December 2022.

As the Standards have been in place for 6 months, Council sought to understand the community’s thoughts about how the implementation was going, and if it was achieving a balance between supporting sporting clubs' ability to promote sponsors whilst maintaining the general amenity of the reserve. The consultation was open from 4 July until 1 August 2023.
Despite overall participation numbers being low, some valuable feedback was received which provides some additional information to Council regarding the implementation of the Standards. 65% of respondents indicated that they were affiliated with a sports club, of which the highest code was cricket with 8 respondents.
41% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the introduction of the Community Standards for Signage in Sporting Grounds and Reserves has ensured the visual amenity of sport and recreation reserves is maintained. A further 31% of respondents were neutral in response to this question.
50% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the introduction of the Community Standards for Signage in Sporting Grounds and Reserves has supported clubs and community groups to raise sponsorship revenue through the display of advertising signage. A further 16% of respondents were neutral in response to this question.
